What are some things you have heard other kids - or each other - arguing about?
In the Old Testament, we see arguing could have led to people fighting and even dying. In many homes there are "domestic disputes" and "domestic violence" - and the police end up coming!
The Danites answered, "Don't argue with us, or some hot-tempered men will attack you, and you and your family will lose your lives."
In the New Testament, we see that arguing was a problem as well. The disciples of Jesus, who were grown-ups, and should have known better, end up arguing with the religious leaders.
When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them.
They also argued with each other - like 12 competitive brothers. (Reminds me of the 12 sons of Jacob.)
They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?"
They were arguing about who was the greatest! Can you see that arguing is selfish?
God's command about arguing
The Bible tells us to avoid a negative, whining tone.
Do everything without complaining or arguing.
Bringing it home
Exercise: Try to imitate the sound of arguing (all at the same time).
Question: Who do we tend to argue most with? (Teachers, parents, each other…)
Question: How many times a day is God happy for us to argue?
Pray for God to help us overcome a negative, arguing spirit.
